Eczema – Atopic Dermatitis Natural Treatment : A condition wherein patches of skin become inflamed, itchy, cracked, and rough. Usually the condition appears in infants and young children’s with a personal or family history of allergy.

The disease is manifested in outbreaks and remissions, and In most cases worsens due to emotional stress and during periods when the air is dry and in the change of seasons, due to the presence of external allergens.

The main symptom of the condition is itching followed by a dry, red rash.

The location of the rash changes with age, in infants the rash is typical in areas such as the cheeks, folds of the knees and joints, the chest, back, and limbs. The rash can also be widespread and manifest in all parts of the body except the diaper area, and is accompanied by restlessness of the baby.

In young children the symptoms include dryness, and roughness of the skin and the appearance of itching followed by a rash in the folds of the knees and joints, wrists, calves and sometimes also the abdomen and back. In acute cases, spreaded infected areas can cause intense and uncontrollable itching, which can lead to the development of open wounds that are prone to infections.

The cause of the outbreak of the disease is unknown. The prevailing opinion is that the outbreak of the disease is linked to a hereditary predisposition to allergies- an over activity of the immune system, which is manifested when exposed to various allergens such as foods (wheat, milk, eggs, soy, fish, corn, preservatives and flavourings etc.), dust, pollen, animal fur and more.

There is another hypothesis which claims that there is a deficiency of certain proteins in the immune system which are responsible for protecting the skin from contaminants, there is an infiltration of bacteria which triggers an inflammatory response and allergic irritation that creates intense itching.

Natural treatment:

First of all, we need to make sure that the patient is not allergic or sensitive to any foods. The best way is an elimination diet, which clears the menu of any possible allergen, and helps identify “problematic” foods. In addition, it is advisable to keep the patient away from other external factors (dust, chemicals, detergents..) that can provoke sensitivity or an allergic reaction.

At the same time it is recommended to use medicinal herbs that are anti allergic, and immune regulators, such as: Astragalus Membranaceus, Siberian Ginseng, Reishi mushroom, Scutellaria baicalensis, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Urtica dioica, and more.

Stress factor- emotional stress is known to have a significant effect on the severity of the symptoms of the disease. Stress management can be achieved with the help of various relaxation techniques (such as yoga and meditation) and relaxing adaptogenic herbs such as; Withania somnifora, Centella asiatica, Ganoderma lucidum, Schisandra chinensis, Verbena officinalis, Rhodiola rosea, and more.

The external treatment is done by applying a cream / gel that contains herbs and natural substances that nourish the skin and reduce sensitivity, inflammation and itching. We will usually use herbs that moisturize the skin such as Centella asiatica, Red clover, and Stelaria media, alongside anti-infection plants such as: Scutellaria baicalensis, Sophora flavescens, Calendula officinalis and more.

It is recommended to add Vitamin E as well, for its moisturizing and antioxidant qualities.

CBD and eczema:

Since the 1990s, scientists have known that humans (and many other animals) have a complex system of cannabinoid receptors running throughout the body, including the skin. CBD interacts with this system and may help the skin re-establish or maintain homeostasis, the result in this case, being a reduction in symptoms associated with eczema.

This endocannabinoid system helps in regulating and normalizing many physiological processes, including pain, mood, stress, sleep and immune system functions. CBD has anti-inflammatory, anti-itch and anti-pain properties that make it extremely attractive as a medicinal compound, particularly in dermatology.

Kiara naturals is an organic Swiss company that manufactures plant based products, combining CBD with other medicinal plants in order to treat specific medical conditions.

Their formulas are based on clinical research backed up by scientific studies, and they offer a multi-systemic treatment for Eczema/ Atopic dermatitis and Psoriasis:

  • CBD full spectrum oil – For stress management and regulation of the immune system:
  • Immune strength capsules – For regulating an over activity of the immune system and strengthening the body as a whole:
  • Psoriasis and Eczema cream – A topical for soothing irritation and pain,
    moisturise and stimulates tissue regeneration:

In herbal holistic medicine, the key of every treatment is to detect and approach the root cause of the problem, in this case; Regulating the immune system that is overactive due to emotional stress or allergic reaction, while reducing inflammation from inside out, and treating acute infections and irritations topically.
