By | July 15, 2021

What would you do if you stole $ 2.5 million dollars? That’s the question Heather Tallchief, then 21-years-old, had to answer in 1993, according to Netflix’s new docuseries Heist. Along with her then-boyfriend Roberto Solis, Tallchief managed to nab bags of cash from Loomis, a cash-handling company which delivered funds to banks.

But life as a fugitive was hard. Tallchief had no permanent identity and no permanent home. She found it difficult to find a job, and struggled to integrate herself into a foreign country without any real roots.

Here’s what we know about Heather Tallchief.

Who is Heather Tallchief?

According to Buffalo News, Tallchief is Seneca and grew up in Buffalo, New York. Her parents divorced when she was two, and per the documentary, she admits drugs and alcohol were rampant in their household.

Growing up, Tallchief told the New York Times she struggled with substance abuse and “lived a largely unhappy life.” She obtained a general equivalency diploma and a nursing assistant certificate, and worked in hospitals and clinics in the San Francisco area. She struggled to keep a job and eventually met Roberto Solis, who was 20 years her senior.

From there, Tallchief says Solis masterminded the heist and convinced her to go along. Per the documentary, he managed to persuade her in part because of his spirituality. Solis believed through sexual energy the two could manifest the money they desired. He also showed her tapes leading up to the crime she says hypnotized her to stay calm during the robbery.

Once they obtained the $ 2.5 million dollars, Tallchief and Solis fled the United States and ended up settling in the Netherlands, where they officially parted ways when Tallchief realized Solis used her only as a means to an end.

What happened after the robbery?

After escaping to the Netherlands, Tallchief had a son. On September 15, 2005, twelve years after the heist, Tallchief turned herself in and ended her life as a fugitive. At the end of the documentary, viewers learn Tallchief served 63 months in prison and was ordered to repay more than $ 2.9 million to Loomis. Her ex-boyfriend Roberto Solis has never been found.

Where is Heather Tallchief now?

According to the documentary, Heather Tallchief has reintegrated into American society, and now works in healthcare. In Heist, Tallchief had her real face blurred out, and actress Emree Franklin reenacted the events of the heist, while Lisa Lord portrayed her as a talking head. She explained since her ex has never been found (and his disappearance is still of interest to the authorities), she wants to come clean, but still keep her privacy.

As of today, it’s unclear where Tallchief is.
